UPDATE: July 12th, 2015
Due to Edublogs not letting most visitors download the pen licence template, I have opened a… *unimpressed grunt*, Teachers Pay Teachers account. The unimpressed grunt is my personal belief that resources should be free to better our profession, not toΒ hit the pockets of our fellow educators.

The pen licence is still FREE. It’s just hosted there so it will be downloadable, instead of waiting for me to reply back to you via email. πŸ™‚ You may have to make an account with… Β *unimpressed grunt*, Teachers Pay Teachers to access it, but it’s still a free download.

>>>

During a discussion with Year 3 and 4 today, some really happy students who recently got their pen licences were sharing this news with me. I asked them where their licence was, knowing that in most cases you do not get a physical licence – a certificate at the most, but nothing that looks licencesy (that’s a word now).

So I asked them if they’d like a licence. We discussed different ideas, then I pulled out my driver’s licence to keep the design ideas coming. By the end of the discussion, the kids all agreed they’d like one that looked just like a driver’s licence. So…

Here it is!

The design is based on the New South Wales driver’s licence. The template is in a Publisher document which makes it very personalised for your class and school.

Customisable header colour. The template comes with six header colours included for easy switching out. The header itself is easily changed to a different colour in any basic drawing program ie, MS Paint.

All text can be edited. Change the name of the:
* School
* Student
* Licence and card numbers (something personal like their date of birth, or a more cryptic number combination)
* School logo (I currently have the Australian coat of arms sitting as a place holder right now)
* Date of issue
* Expiry date
* Have the students add their own signature under the “P” in ‘Licence Class’

You can also include a picture of the student by replacing the image of the pens on the right hand side, or leave them there for a symmetrical feel with the faded others on the opposite side.

These licences print out to be a little bit larger than an actual driver’s licence. They also look best laminated.

Hope you get some use out of these. πŸ™‚

** UPDATE **

Having trouble saving the file and editing it? Try these steps:

1. saving01
When you click on the ” Here it is! ” link to download the file, the above window should pop up.

2. saving02
This window is saying that it will open the file directly into Microsoft Word. You don’t want to do this because it’s a Microsoft Publisher file.

3. saving03

So, instead, click on the Save File option and save it directly to your computer. This will now give you the original Publisher file that you can edit and personalise.

4. saving04
Now you just need to open that file in Publisher. You can do this by double-clicking on the file’s icon, or open Publisher up directly and open it in there.

As always, if this isn’t helping, please feel free to contact me and I’ll send it to you directly.

    Love the look of itand would really like to usit for my class. However, when I try to download it, it is a scrambled mess and asks me for the encoding that makes it readable.
    Any advice?

      I just checked the download link and for some odd reason, it tried to open the file in MS Word. I changed the opening default program to Publisher and it worked fine.
      Alternatively, you could save the file directly to your desktop then open the file in Publisher from there.

      If you read this before you check your inbox; I sent you a copy of the file directly.

      Thank you. πŸ™‚

    Mr Mac,

    Love the licence. I could download with a little fiddling and I can edit no problem. Just thought I would add that I have put a photo of the child in the left picture box to make it more personlised.
    Thankyou for your effort to create this.

      Thank you for sharing what you’ve done with this item.
      Putting a photo in was the intended idea for this license, but others have put in computers, pens, internet browser logos and other school responsibility images. So what originally was meant to be a pen license, others took the idea and turned it into something relevant to their school. πŸ™‚

    This is a great idea.
    The class I started on mid year had already had these (well half the class did and I have been left with the remaining kids wanting theirs.
    If you could email me a copy that would be great – As I can’t seem to open this one up.

    Thank you

    Hi, I can’t seem to find the link to download. When I click on the image it simply takes me to a larger image. Would it be too much trouble to ask you to email me an editable copy of this?

    Thank you very much for this resource. It makes everything so much easier and affordable. I agree that we should share with each other and pass resources to all the teaching community. Its my first year teaching so I haven’t got very much to contribute yet. But I will hopefully have enough time one day to upload some things.
